American Family Insurance All American 10 Mile & 5K - Photo Gallery (Chicago, IL)

After hosting an 8K race in previous years, the 2004 event offered two races--a 10 Mile and 5K--which attracted nearly 800 participants combined.

Jeff Turner, 33, from Chelmsford, England, kicks down the final straightaway for the 5K victory in 17:25.

Lisle's Susan Appleyard, 37, was the class of the women's field in the 10 Mile, winning by over a minute in 1:03:11.

Recent Loyola University grad Kim Wiedman, 21, of Glen Ellyn, (photo) won the 5K in 18:49, while Wiedman's former Loyola teammate, Kristyne McGuinn, 22, of Chicago, was runner-up in 19:21.

When all of the running was out of the way, participants were treated to a good ol' fashioned 4th of July cookout to start the holiday off right.

Tony Toulouse, 36, from Chicago, who finished his 5K in 57:24, and Ted Diehl, 38, from San Ramon, CA, who ran the 10 Mile in 1:28, set up their own picnic after the race.

It was an event for the whole family with kids races following the 5K and 10 Mile runs.

Overall 10 Mile winners Chris Wehrman, 28, of Chicago (53:05) and Susan Appleyard are all smiles since their efforts earned them free round-trip airfare courtesy of American Airlines.
