1. They day's hot ticket belonged to the back of the
lead vehicle,
as
Race Director Bud James (top) and a host of other local
running gurus
packed it in for a great ride at the 27th Annual Park Forest
Scenic 10
Miler.
2. Milwaukee's Matt Thull (#12) shot out to an early lead and
held on to finish as the top American in 51:01, good for 11th place.
3. LaGrange Park's Lynn Vocelka, 46, was the women's 5K
winner in 20:49.
4. Andrew Duncan, 37, from Las Vegas, NV, broke the tape in
the men's 5K in 17:04.
5. Julius Kiptoo, 27, a Kenyan training in Westchester, PA,
conquered the humidity and a deep, competitive field to win in 48:01.
6. Fifth and sixth place finishers Ronald Mogaka (49:18) and
Charles Ndereba (49:20) pass one of several unique musical acts that
lined the
course as they head into the final stretch.
7. Japan's Yasuko Hashimoto, 29, was the women's champion
in 55:40. She will be back in town to race The LaSalle Bank Chicago
Marathon on October 10.
8. Lake Villa's Jenny Spangler, 41, was the second overall
woman, setting a national age-group record with her time of 56:56.
9. Despite humidity that peaked at over 90 percent, there were
1,468 finishers in the 10 Mile and 376 in the 5K.
10. Pat Savage (5K, 22:22) and Nancy Rollins (10M, 1:15:14)
from the Niles West/Oakton Running Club, and Keith Holzmueller (10M,
1:03:20)
from the Evanston Running Club, kick back at the post-race party.
11. The top 10 men line up to accept their overall awards---and
it's a Kenyan sweep!
