01-01-2006 Polar Swim - Photo Gallery (Chicago, IL)

A few hundred hearty folks showed up again for the New Year's Day Polar Plunge at North Avenue beach.

With the air temperatures hovering around a mild 40 degrees, going in doesn't seem too bad . . .

. . . but coming out of the frigid water is much better!

This patriotic swimmer did the polar plunge, came out and then went back in again!

Tony Klaich, 35, from Chicago, IL, did his brick workout in preparation for the Lake Placid Ironman. He ran the the New Year's 5K and then did the Polar Plunge

Chicagoan Bryce Sabin rode his bike to the Polar Blunge and was quick to get bundled up after dipping into Lake Michigan.

It's all family fun for Warrenville's Bill Weidner, 53, and his daughter Katie, 21, who did this for the first time.
