1. Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich accepts bib
#40 (he's the 40th governor) from Steamboat Elite Athlete
Coordinator and USATF Men's LDR Chair, Glenn Latimer (L)
and Race Director, Philip Lockwood (R).
2. Many regarded Kenya's Shadrack Kosgei as the
pre-race
favorite, and he proved those people right by winning the
4-mile race in
a time of 17:45 (an average of 4:27 per mile).
3. Romania's Constantina Tomescu-Dita, the 2004
LaSalle
Bank Chicago Marathon champion, won the closely
contested women's
race in 20:47.
4. Right on Tomescu-Dita's heels was runner-up
Sylvia
Mosqueda of Los Angeles (20:52) and third place finisher
Blake Russell
of San Jose (20:53).
5. Even with the added drag of a pirate cap, the final
half-mile
rolls downhill and accelarates runners to the finish line.
6. Local Congressman Ray LaHood of Peoria ran
the 4-mile
race and finished in a respectable 45:51.
7. The "Big Three" from the Brooks Hansons
Distance Project
ran away with the 15K title. From left to right, Brian Sell, Trent
Briney and
Clint Verran, all registered 50:19 for the challenging course.
8. Abigail Nelkie from West Branch, MI, who runs for
North Carolina State, was the top women's
finisher in the 15K, clocking 1:00:39.
9. Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich conquered the
15K course
in a time of 1:20:54.
10. Chicago's Bridget Sullivan (L) ran 1:05:19, good
for
fourth place
in the 15K. Her twin sister Anne (R), also of Chicago, ran the
4-mile in 28:43.
