1. Nearly 750 runners came out of winter hibernation to participate in the LifeStart Wacky 5K on a beautiful March morning in Chicago.

2. Overall winner Emisael Favela of Chicago sprints toward the finish to register an impressive early season time of 15:35.

3. Women's champion Kalina Michalska of Chicago built more than a minute-and-a-half lead over the second place finisher, to win in 18:54.

4. Maybe event sponsor NIKETOWN Chicago could help outfit this participant with a more running savvy vest.

5. For so early in the racing season, there were some "utterly" great performances.

6. All runners, including Chicagoan Ian Miller, had occasion to smile, as the event lucked out with the first spring-like weather in Chicago.

7. Apples and bananas were some of the healthier post-race treats, but the main attraction was the abundance of snack food at the post-race party.
