48th Ted Haydon Classic Dec. 16

    The 48th annual Ted Haydon Classic will kick off the Chicago-area
track and field season on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the University of Chicago's
Henry Crown Field House, 56th and University Ave.
    Field events will begin at 9 a.m. and track events will commence 
at 1 p.m.  Approximately 300 athletes are expected to compete. 
     Entry fee is $6 per event, $24 per relay team and $150 per team. A
team entry is good for up to 30 athletes wioth a limit of two events per
competitor.  Entries are due by Dec. 11.  For more information, call meet

     The Haydon meet is sponsored and organized by the University of
Chicago Track Club (UCTC).  The meet was founded in 1953 as a holiday
get-together when U of C coach Edward "Ted" Haydon organized an indoor
meet for athletes who were home for winter break. The meet then evolved
into the UCTC, which today offers year-round indoor and outdoor training
programs for athletes at all levels. Haydon died in 1985 at age 73.
     Events include: pole vault, 20-pound weight throw (W), long jump,
high jump, 35-pound weight throw (M), shot put, triple jump, 55-meter
dash, mile run, 400-meters, 800-meters, 55-meter hurdles, 200-meters,
3,000-meters (W), 5,000-meters (M), 1,600-meter relay.
