Fleet Feet Sports Chicago is opening a second store. The new Fleet
Feet at 4555 N. Lincoln (at Wilson)., is expected to open in March,
according to store owner Dave Zimmer.
"We'll be open before the Shamrock Shuffle (April 1)," Zimmer
said. "This will help us branch out to the Lakeview, Roscoe Village and
Ravenswood neighborhoods, and our customers in Skokie, Lincolnwood,
Evanston and Rogers Park have told us they wished we were closer. It's
going to pick up some new business for us and give our current customers
some new options."
According to Zimmer, the new location is just a short run away from
Horner Park, site of the Chicago Public League's annual cross-country
championships every year, and Ronan Park. It's also close to the
newly-renovated eight-lane track in River Park, and is near North Park
College as well as Amundsen, Lane Tech and Lake View high schools.
David Dowd will manage the new store. He has been manager of the
flagship operation at 210 W. North Ave., in Piper's Alley.
Zimmer, who owns both stores with his wife Lisa, noted that the new
shop will be located next to a Starbucks, just as the North Ave store
is. The new location is also near the Davis Theater and across the
street from the Old Town School of Folk Music, keeping what Zimmer
called the "running shoe-coffee-theater" theme for both stores.
One difference with the new store is that there is a 100-space
parking lot next door. Construction on the 2300-square foot facility
began in December.
