Tour parks and neighborhoods by bike and boulevard
Press release
August 31, 2006
Chicago Athlete

Rounding Washington Boulevard on bicycle through 185-acre Garfield Park and passing its beautiful "Gold Dome" field house is just one of the many sights at the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation's Boulevard Lakefront Tour presented by Schwartz Cooper.

A fully supported bicycle tour with rest stations throughout the city, the Boulevard Lakefront Tour is the final major event of the city of Chicago's summertime Bike Chicago festival.

And now it is Chicagoland's first climate-neutral certified event, as the result of a partnership with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus initiative, Clean Air Counts, and with leading support from Clif Bar. Climate-neutral events achieve a net-zero impact on the environment through specific choices that reduce and offset air pollution emissions created during the event's production. Clif Bar is purchasing renewable energy credits and donations to offset carbon dioxide emissions created by the Boulevard Lakefront Tour.

The Boulevard Lakefront Tour features three routes including the 15- mile South Side Ramble for families and casual riders; the 35-mile Boulevard Tour on Chicago's boulevards and through its parks; and the 62-mile Ultimate Neighborhood Ride designed by the Chicago Cycling Club traveling through more than 30 neighborhoods. Volunteer course marshals and ride marshals help riders along the route and participants can take advantage of evenly-spaced rest and water stops.

After the ride, a picnic lunch is offered to all participants and volunteers at the post-ride festival. Provided by Goose Island Brew Pub, the picnic lunch offers meat, veggie and vegan sandwich options plus chips, fruit and a Goose Island soda or bottled water. The festival also features music and vendors, including Clif Bar, Simple Coffee, Bikin' Bling jewelry, Performance Bike Shop and more.

Registration is $30 for Chicagoland Bicycle Federation members and $35 for non-members and includes the picnic lunch, ride guide, event T-shirt and goody bag. Children 13 and under register at $10, which includes an event T-shirt and the picnic lunch. For $55, receive a Boulevard Lakefront Tour registration and a yearlong membership to the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation.

For more information about the Boulevard Lakefront Tour and to register, visit www.boulevardtour.org or call the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation at (312) 427-3325, ext. 251.
