Former Girls on the Run - Chicago director to serve as CARA executive director

Besty Armstrong brings business skills and running passion to CARA
The Chicago Area Runners Association announced today the
addition of Betsy Armstrong as Executive Director. Armstrong brings
strong fundraising, marketing and management skills to the role. She
joins CARA from Girls on the Run where she held both national and
local posts, raising the organization's profile through program
innovation and marketing. Most recently she acted as National Director
of Girls on the Runs' Team Tiara fundraising efforts. Previously, she
served as Executive Director of Girls on the Run - Chicago.
In addition to her extensive program development and organizational
expertise, Armstrong is a dedicated athlete. She is a Boston-qualifying
marathoner with 17 marathons completed to date. Armstrong holds a
B.S. in Food Science from the University of Minnesota and a M.S. in
Human Services Counseling from National Louis University.
"I am delighted that CARA was able to identify an Executive Director of
Betsy's caliber," said Thurman Gills, President of CARA Board of
Directors. "In addition to her abundant leadership skills, Betsy
possesses the attributes that are required to move CARA forward on our
mission. Betsy is focused, energetic and enthusiastic about building
programs that serve the running community. She has a proven track
record of success and we are thrilled to have her on board."
Armstrong will assume her new post as CARA's Executive Director on
October 9th, 2006.
