Corenlio Velasco had one of those weekends runners dream about. The 32-year-old won the Flying Pig Marathon on Sunday in Cincinnati in a PR 2 hours, 31 minutes, 13 seconds, but that's not the whole story. Twenty-four hours earlier, the Mexican native who lives in Chicago, made the top 20 at the Indy-Mini Half-Marathon in Indianapolis!

Velasco, who speaks very little English, explained how he was in Indy, thought he felt good, and decided in mid-afternoon to drive on to Cincinnati and enter the Flying Pig. That he did, entering on Saturday night, close to the registration deadline. The elite entry was assigned Bib No. 2973. And on Sunday morning, there he was, in the front row on foggy 7th Street with the other race favorites.

Velasco warmed up for his double act by pacing Chicago United R.C. teammate Francisco Tomas for the first 15 miles in the Lakeshore Marathon in Chicago on April 21. Tomas won that race in 2:34:50. It all paid off for Velasco. He had what it took on the hilly course in Cincinnati.

"I felt good," he said. He explained that he took the lead at around the 14-mile mark and held it.

The bigs news on the women's side was Tatyana Pozdnyajova, 47, a native of Ukraine, who smashesd the course record and won a $10,000 bonus. She ran a sensational 2:34:35, breaking the women's record of 2:49.31.

Isaac Barnes of Williamsport, OH, improved his time from last year by nearly a full minute, finishing second to Velasco in 2:31:31. The female second place finisher was Krista Place of Marysville, OH, with a time of 2:51:02.

Scott Young of Tucson, AZ, crossed the finish line third with a time of 2:31:53 while Dolores Ware of Virginia Beach, Virginia, took the women's third-place award with 2:54:06.
