Girls on the Run fundraiser offers a chance to win entry to the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon
August 4, 2006
Chicago Athlete

Girls on the Run Chicago is offering runners a final chance to enter the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. The nonprofit is hosting a "virtual" raffle on-line, where for a $26.20 donation (ten cents for each mile of the marathon) risk-takers can throw their name in the hat to win a free entry to the Oct. 22 race, valued at $90. The raffle winner will also receive a complementary entry to Team Tiara, the charity leg of Girls on the Run.

"This is a really fun way to help us raise a little money to bring our programs to more girls, and at the same time, help a lucky runner meet a goal, realize a dream or make good on a promise they made to themselves," says Kelly O'Brien, Executive Director of GOTR-Chicago.

Proceeds from the raffle will benefit Girls on the Run Chicago, an after- school program for young girls that uses the power of running to change the way girls see themselves and their opportunities. GOTR's preventative health education and wellness program combines training for a 5K run/walk with life-changing lessons on topics such as leadership, community service, healthy eating and emotional health that inspire a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

The Marathon entry was donated to Girls on the Run--Chicago by Illinois-based fitness company Life Fitness. "Life Fitness is pleased to support Girls on the Run. We share the common goal of making a difference through fitness and education," said Greg Bahnfleth, training and education manager of the Life Fitness Academy.

To purchase a virtual raffle ticket, visit www.gotrchicago.com and log on to register before noon on August 15. There is no limit to how many times you enter. GOTR-Chicago is a 501c(3) and all raffle entries are tax deductible. The winner will be notified by phone by August 16.

Not ready for 26.2? Race fans, supporters and wanna-be marathoners can donate to GOTR and join the Team Tiara Cheer Squad. To join the Cheer Squad, fans can log on to register for the raffle, but skip the raffle ticket and make their $26.20 donation to Girls on the Run(R)--Chicago. Donors can join the GOTR Cheering Station along the race route.

Already running a race? Make your run more meaningful by joining the fundraisers on Team Tiara. For raising $262, runners receive a goody bag, singlet, and a sporty tiara so that they can run in style! Go to www.gotrchicago.com for more information or to register.
