Chicago Marathon Registration Continues to Soar
From a LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon News Release
Chicago (August 15, 2001) Registration is quickly
approaching record levels for The LaSalle Bank Chicago
Marathon. To date, more than 30,000 runners have signed
up for the Oct. 7
race, according to race organizers. Registration totals have
been well ahead of last year's pace, which
set a record of 33,171 entrants. In 2001, the race set a
registration cap of 37,500. The cap was created in
order to achieve, from an operations and planning
standpoint, a race that
offers a safe and enjoyable experience for both runners and
spectators.
"We are thrilled with the registration numbers and want to
remind everyone
that the opportunity to sign up for the marathon is now," said
Carey
Pinkowski, executive race director. "In the past, many
participants
registered in the final weeks before the race. With the cap
quickly
