Chicago Marathon Registration Continues to Soar
From a LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon News Release

Chicago (August 15, 2001) Registration is quickly approaching record levels for The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. To date, more than 30,000 runners have signed up for the Oct. 7 race, according to race organizers.

Registration totals have been well ahead of last year's pace, which set a record of 33,171 entrants. In 2001, the race set a registration cap of 37,500. The cap was created in order to achieve, from an operations and planning standpoint, a race that offers a safe and enjoyable experience for both runners and spectators.

"We are thrilled with the registration numbers and want to remind everyone that the opportunity to sign up for the marathon is now," said Carey Pinkowski, executive race director. "In the past, many participants registered in the final weeks before the race. With the cap quickly approaching, that will not be possible this year."
