Stockman, Schmidt Back in Tinley Park on Saturday
2001 champions Chris Stockman (photo) and Heidi Schmidt are signed up to compete on Saturday in the Met Life Race Around the World Duathlon in Tinley Park.

The competition consists of a 2-mile run, 10-mile bike ride and a second 2-mile run. As of Thursday night, approximately 360 people had signed up. Race director Gil Hannon, speaking at the packet pickup desk at The Human Race in Olrand Park, said although on-line registration has closed, regular signup will be available Friday at The Human Race, 15148 LaGrange Road, and on race morning. Registration is $25.

Location for the start and finish is 174th Street and Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park.

Last year, Stockman won, while Dave Walters placed second. Both are national-level competitors. Schmidt was first, while Lisa Menninger was second a year ago on the women's side. Walters and Menninger also are slated to compete on Saturday.

Hannon stressed that there is pkenty of room left in the field for competition-starved multisport athletes.
