Northern Illinois Nordic registration now open
December 12, 2006 Chicago Athlete
Entries are now being accepted for the Northern Illinois Nordic cross-
country ski races on Saturday, Jan. 13 at Arrowhead Golf Club in
Wheaton. The event consists of a 14K freestyle, 7K freestyle and 4K kids
race. Freestyle means either the skating or diagonal stride techniques
can be used. All distances are subject to conditions.
"I am a runner and triathlete," said NIN race director Bob Richards. "But
I've become a passionate cross-country skier over the years as well and
urge other runners and triathletes to consider it and try our fun, low-key
race. The course is very skier-friendly and so is the atmosphere, right
down to hot tea on the course."
The race has drawn 100-200 people in past years. A backup date of
Jan. 20 has been set if there is no snow. Some rental equipment is
available. The Northern Illinois Nordic is part of the Illinois XC Weekend
with the Joliet Nordic scheduled for the next day.
