The Park Forest Scenic 10-miler, one of the premier
races in the Chicago, will induct three new members to its
Hall of Fame this Labor Day at the 24th edition of the race.
The announcement was made by race director Bud James. The new members-to-be are listed below. Biographical
information was provided by James.
MARTHA DAVIDSON: Martha is our long-time race
administrator who is responsible for a host of things from
application development to results books. She simply does
it all as a true ambassador for Park Forest and the Scenic
10. Martha is a friend of running who is known and
respected throughout the Chicago area as an expert on race
administration. She spends countless hours in the
preparation and planning of the Scenic 10. We will be happy
to welcome this wonderful woman to the Hall of Fame.
ERNIE DUNBAR: Ernie Dunbar has been the journalist who
has covered our race longer than any other. He has written
sports for the Star Newspaper since the race began in the
late 70s. Ernie has seen every winner cross our finish line
and has interviewed them all in a most professional way.
He has been a promoter of running and the Scenic 10. It
would be hard to imagine the Scenic 10 without Ernie
Dunbar as he writes his story every year with such class.
CAREY PINKOWSKI: Carey has evolved from elite-level
athlete to world famous race organizer. Carey has his roots
in Northern Indiana as a Hammond HS runner who was
one of FOUR runners on his HS team to run under 9
minutes in 2 miles. He then ran at Villanova where he was a
member of a World Record Relay team. He continued his
involvement as a road racer running the Scenic 10 several
times in the 80s and running some fine times. Carey more
recently is known as the Race Director of the LaSalle Bank
Chicago Marathon. As a leader in the world wide running
community he has done countless things that have had a
positive influence on the local running community. He has
been a supporter and friend of the Scenic 10 throughout that
time. We are happy to honor Carey for his fine overall
accomplishments in running.
