Sunday is ladies' day at Montrose and the lake. The first "She's Got Sole 8K" an all-women's race, will
be staged on the lakefront on Sunday, June 24 by Universal
Sole. A pre-registered field of 450-500 will be joined by
race-day signees, who could swell the field to 600. The
race will start and finish at the Montrose Beach
House.
Race time is 8 a.m.
The new race will be part of Universal Sole's continuing
commitment to grassroots running, said store owner and
race director Paul Peters.
"We (Universal Sole) like to put on events that provide every
runner with an enjoyable experience," Peters said. "We will
have a fast fun course, a great Patagonia performance race
shirt, post-run breakfast and post-run guest speakers
discussing women's issues in athletics."
Proceeds from the race will go to the Chicago Abused
Women's Coalition. Registration is $25 per person through
Saturday, June 23 and $30 on race day. Universal Sole is at
3352 N. Paulina, Chicago. On-line registration was
available
through www.signmeupsports.com, but Peters said it likely
wouldbe shut down Thursday night.
