Lake Zurich Triathlon cancelled
May 31, 2006

The Lake Zurich Triathlon, previously scheduled for Aug. 13, 2006, has been cancelled due to heavy road construction in the area.

"The team putting it on this year decided that there would be too many hurdles to make it a quality event," said race director Steve Skora. Those hurdles include major interstate contruction that has clogged up several intersections.

This year would have been the 11th year of the triathlon, which had approximately 950 participants last year.

"We've had a lot of loyal people over the years and personally it was a struggle for me to cancel it," said Skora. "We set high expectations and there were too many variables that caused us concern."

Race organizers had been holding off on opening up registration due to the logistical and safety concerns. Skora said that the triathlon will return next year.
