The ABD Cycle Club, based in west suburban Winfield,
has announced it will be holding its
fifth annual Indoor Time Trial Series in 2004. Each race is a
10-kilometer event in which participants attach their own
bicycle to a stationary, computer-controlled trainer. The
series kicks off on Jan. 11, and
the first four events (Jan. 11, Feb. 1 & 22 and March 2) will
be held at the Wheaton Park District's Sports Center in
Wheaton.
A new fifth indoor event will be held at the Subaru Chicago
Bike Show on Navy Pier on March 27. All
participants will receive a free day pass to the show.
The
series
wraps up with the John Fraser Memorial outdoor 10-mile
time trial on April 4 in
Maple Park. All events feature daily raffles and prizes.
There are also overall series prizes in various categories.
The series is open to the public and provides a great
opportunity for
participants to track their fitness improvements against their
own
times as well as other competitors. Past participants have
included
riders from 8 to 78 years old, and beginners to the
country's top amateurs.
Registration is now open. For more
