Tom Snyders, "The Bicycling Comedian," has spent the past two
decades pedaling his fully-loaded touring bicycle to all his stand-up
comedy performances throughout North America. He's cycled more than
141,000 miles and to all 50 states. (Hawaii was not easy; he pedaled his
bike eight hours a day for five days on the deck of a cruise ship to get to
Maui by bicycle.) Snyders has also cycled in 23 countries on five
continents.
On Sunday, Sept. 30, Snyders will perform a benefit show for West Town
Bikes' Youth Programs (www.westtownbikes.org) at Mother Hubbard's, 5
West Hubbard Street, Chicago, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available
at the door starting an hour before showtime.
Snyders left Ottawa on Thursday, Sept. 27, by fully-loaded touring
bicycle to pedal to Chicago in time to attend the Critical Mass Ride on
Friday, Sept. 28.
Snyders has made ten national television appearances, including being
featured on "Good Morning America," "Live with Regis & Kelly," and
appearances on Comedy Central and ESPN. He has also performed in
more than 200 comedy clubs across the United States.
Snyders' unique one-hour, one-man stand-up comedy show centers
around his travels by bicycle on the back roads of America (and the
world) over the past 20 years. Along the way he snaps photos of weird
and amusing road signs (many of them bicycling related), the best of
which are featured in his live performances.
Snyders is currently writing a book entitled Lessons from the Road. He
has already written a screenplay; coincidentally, it's about a comedian
who travels by bicycle to all his stand-up comedy performances. "It's
Forrest Gump meets Seabiscuit," he jokes.
