**** ACTION ALERT - Bike legislation in Springfield ****
March 11, 2005
News notice from Illinois League of Bicyclists

Dear cyclists,

Please take 2-3 minutes to call your state representative and state senator, asking them to support these bills important to bicyclists:

"Boub" Bill: House Bill 2390 would restore some liability protection for bicyclists on Illinois' local roads and remove a powerful disincentive that has stopped many towns and counties from adding on-road bike lanes, routes, etc.

Complete Streets: Senate Bill 508 would direct IDOT to better accommodate bikes and pedestrians in their roadway designs, through policy changes and better training.

Bikes on Metra: House Bill 467 states that Metra (Chicagoland's commuter rail service) must allow bicycles onto trains, at least during non-rush hours and on weekends. (HB 467 has already passed the House unanimously!)

More info and links to the latest status is at www.bikelib.org

You can quickly get your legislators' contact info at www.elections.state.il.us/DLS/Pages/DLSA ddressCrit.asp

Please call their local office and leave a message (even in off-hours).

During my Springfield visits, I hear firsthand the powerful impact of your phone calls. It's "crunch time" on these bills, so please call today (and forward this message to others) - thanks!

Ed Barsotti, Executive Director
League of Illinois Bicyclists
