CHICAGO, IL - The wheels are spinning and it's sure to be a
great time for the entire family at the Chicago Bike Show & Family
Fitness Expo. The largest consumer bike show in the Midwest will
showcase some exciting new attractions at this year's event, Friday,
April 1 through Sunday, April 3 in Festival Hall A at Navy Pier.If the X Games, Gravity Games and the King of Dirt aren't familiar to you,
just ask your kids! Members of the incredibly poplular Schwinn Stunt
Team, who have participated in these events, will be performing several
times throughout the weekend. Chicago native Billy Gawrych, a pro
Flatlander with the team, is excited to be back in his hometown. You
won't want to miss these exciting stunts.
This marks the first year of the Women's Cycling Symposium on
Saturday, April 2, from 9:30-11:45 a.m. Keynote speaker for this event is
nationally renown sports nutritionist and author, Monique Ryan, who will
deliver the keynote speech, "The Top 5 Nutrition Strategies for Women
Cyclists." Ryan is the author of several books including the newly
released "Performance Nutrition for Team Sports" (VeloPress 2005). In
addition, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in two
breakout sessions on these topics: Racing 101, Training, Bike
Mechanics for Chicks, Products Specific for Women, Cycling Leg of the
Triathlon and You're Never Too Old to Bike.
The entries and winners of the "Cycle Chicago: Get Fit, Bike It" poster
contest will also be on display near the stunt area. Over 600 entries
were submitted by Chicago school children from grades K-12 and the
award presentation for the top winners in each category will take place
on Sunday, April 3 at 9:30 a.m. The winning entries are also featured in
Chicago Athlete Magazine's April issue.
Qasim Mitchell, last year's starting offensive lineman for the Chicago
Bears will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs at the Chicago
Bears Football Club (booth #205) on Sunday (time TBA).
The "Celebrity Cycling Challenge" between the Chicago Fire and Police
Departments will take place again on Sunday, April 3 at 1 p.m. with the
winning team of the 10-minute time trial claiming title to a $1,250
donation by LaSalle Bank to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Other weekend highlights include the Kids Corral, the Demo area where
young and old can test ride bikes, educational seminars such as
"Sightseeing by Bicycle" by Eric and Kathy Schramm, co-owners of the
bicycle touring company Two Bicycles and a Map, and the popular
Closeout Center with over 5,000 new products available at discount
prices.
