Mark Chicago's Coldest Day with a Bracing Bike Ride to Work
January 17, 2006
From press release.

When it comes to winter weather, Chicagoans are a hardy breed. That's why bicycle commuters in the city mark the coldest recorded day in Chicago history by celebrating a Winter Bike to Work Day breakfast party each year in Daley Plaza.

From 7 to 9 a.m. Jan. 20, the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation will welcome bike riders to the plaza for this annual event, serving hot chocolate and Eli's Cheesecake. Plus, there's a free raffle for prizes from the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation.

The date marks the 21st anniversary of Chicago's coldest recorded day: in 1985 the official temperature at O'Hare was minus 27 degrees with 36 mph wind gusts, which produced wind chills as low as minus 93 degrees.
