Nearly 4,000 women raced the Danskin Triathlon July 8 in Pleasant
Prairie, Wisconsin.
Lauren Jensen of New Berlin, Wis., finished first place (1:05:37) for the
fourth year in a row. Jensen has participated in the Danskin series since
the 1990s. "There's such a comaraderie and such support from women
to women," she said.
At Danskin, however, last place is just as notable. Sally Edwards, who
has competed in every Danskin triathlon since its inception in 1990 and
serves as the series' spokesperson, finished in final place to ensure that
no other woman had to be last across the finish line.
"The Danskin Tri Series celebrates women and champions the reality
that women can overcome and accomplish any goal they set for
themselves," said Maggie Sullivan, Danskin Triathlon Series Director.
Spectators await the start of the race.
Eventual winner Lauren Jensen is the first to exit the water with a sub-10
minute half-mile swim through Lake Andrea (9:35 swim, 1:05:37 final
time).
Athletes give each other high fives before the start of their wave.
Lauren Jensen wins for the fourth year in a row (1:05:37). Jensen has
participated in the Danskin Series since the 1990s. "There's an energy
here," she said. "There's nothing like it in any other race."
