THE SCOOP:
The LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle is ready to usher in the
running
season in Chicago on Sunday morning. As of Tuesday
afternoon, 13,650
people were signed up for the 24th annual 8K race, and
1,090 were
registered for the 5K walk. There will be quite a few more
signups
today and tomorrow and at the Expo Friday and Saturday at
the Chicago
Hilton and Towers, 720 S. Michigan.
Top contenders are Australian Shaun Creighton and
Collette Liss, who
both will be seeking to win a third Shamrock championship.
Liss, of
Indianapolis, will fly to the World Cross Country
Championships in
Switzerland after her Chicago run. The men's field also
includes Rod
DeHaven and some of the top competitors from the
Hansons team in
Michigan. Leading women include Jenny Crain and Jenelle
Deatherage.

THE BIKE SHOW:
We told you about the show on Tuesday morning, but offer
you this
one last reminder. The Subaru Chicago Bike Show and
Family Fitness
Expo has something for everyone! The cycling extravaganza
will be
in Festival Hall A at Navy Pier from noon-8 p.m. on Friday, 10
a.m.-
8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday. Be there!

THE NEWS:
1972 Olympic Marathon champion Frank Shorter will appear
at the
New Balance/Fleet Feet booth at the Expo from 5-6 p.m. on
Friday,
and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday. He also will appear at
Fleet
Feet's Piper's Alley store, 210 W. North Ave., from 2-3 p.m.
on
Saturday. Photos with Frank will be offered. You can pick
them
up after March 28 at the Piper's Alley store.

Bicycles and the Law, a discussion on how Illinois and
Chicago laws
affect cyclists, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, March 24 at
the
Chicagoland Bicycle Federation office, 650 S. Clark, Suite
300, Chicago.
Three experienced Illinois attorneys will be present to
explain the law.

The Dairyland Half-Ironman Triathlon on July 27 in Racine,
WI, has
increased its field limit to 1,250 from 1,000, and is very
close to
filling. The Galena Triathlon and Duathlon races on May 17
are closed.

RunBig Chicago, the local organization for Clydesdales, has
announced formation of two new weight-division racing
circuits.
One will be for running events and the other for multisport
races.
