THE SCOOP
A triad of triathlon news starts with a reminder that registration remains open for the June 21 Hammerfest Triathlon until June 14. Second, the water will be around 60 degrees, but the swim is still on at this Saturday's Elkhart Lake (WI) Triathlon. Can you say WET SUIT? Finally, all registration, mail and on-line, is offically closed for the Accenture Chicago Triathlon on Aug. 24.

THE NEWS
Mike York and Heather Haviland were the winners Sunday at the Kenosa (WI) County 30K Cycling Time Trial. York, of Athletes by Design, won in 42:06; Haviland, of Wisconsin Health and Fitness, posted a 46:27.19. The fastest time of the day actually was turned in by Turin's Mark Swartzendruber, who did the course twice, first going 43:02 in the open class and then doing the course again in 41:48 while competing in the masters 40 classification.

Chicago-area triathletes Dave Irion and Megan Zucco set the winning pace at the Tri-Shark Triathlon near Bloomington. It was another sold-out field.

Dan Mayer and Jennifer Parks ruled the Fifth Third Bank Half-Marathon in St. Charles. THE WEEKEND AHEAD
The CARA Circuit moves west to the Walter Payton Sweetness Run on Sunday in Aurora. The 10K (8:30 a.m.) starts/finishes at the Walter Payton Roundhouse eatery. Wheelchairs (7:50 a.m.), a 5K (8 a.m.) and kids events also are on tap. With the 10K on the Circuit this year, defending champion Tom Bellos should have serious competition. Race director Jane England looks forward to a good race. For info, go to: www.foxvalleyparkdistrict.org/sweetness, or call 630-859-8606.

The She's Got Sole 8K all-women's race is set for 8 a.m., Sunday, at Montrose Beach House in Lincoln Park. Top locals Jenny Spangler, Susan Appleyard, Emily Hauer, Rhaina Echols and Virginia Pace are among the early entries, race director Paul Peters of Universal Sole said on Wednesday. A non-competitive 3K and kids races round out the program. For more info, go to: www.universalsole.com, or call 773-868-0893.

The new Chicago Quarter-Marathon has 1,100 runners registered. The 6.55-miler at 8 a.m. on Sunday, will assure PRs for all. Race director Susan Nicholl says there is "great energy all around" as final preparations are made for this unique event. Start/finish is at U.S. Cellular Field (Comiskey), 35th and Shields. For more info, go to: www.chicagoquartermarathon.com, or call 312-347-0233.

There are many other races and events this weekend, from the Taking Strides for Youth 5K in LaGrange to the International Inline Skating Festival in Elk Grove to the Sunburst Marathon in South Bend to the Trek 100 Bike Ride. Please visit: www.chicagoaa.com/calendar/smu.html
