THE SCOOP
If the sports bra fits, wear it! The amazing thing is the bra usually doesn't fit! Sorry guys, this one's for women only. According to Audrey Kirland, sports bra developer for Moving Comfort, 80 percent of women athletes wear the wrong size. Other than shoes, Kirland says, sports bras are a woman's most important piece of sports equipment. Kirland has 20 years of experience in the bra business and knows a thing or two about functionality and design. To learn more, and if you would like to be properly fitted, save 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. this Sunday, July 20, for a seminar on sports bras with Kirland at Fleet Feet Sports, 210 W. North Ave., Chicago. Call 312- 587-3338 with questions. The seminar is free.

THE RESULTS
The International Cycling Classic Superweek races got off to a flying start on Friday at the first Beverly Hills Cycling Classic, a 100-kilometer criterium in the Beverly-Morgan Park neighborhood. Jonas Carney of Milwaukee was first and Robbie Ventura of Gurnee, a regular columnist for us here at Chicago Athlete, was sixth in the tough world-class field. There was no women's competition in the new Chicago event. For bike fans, there is International Cycling Classic racing almost every day, mostly in Wisconsin, with the action taking place today at Hales Corners, WI, just outside of Milwaukee. Next Chicago-area stop in the series is this Sunday, July 20, at the Bensenville Criterium. There is racing all day, but the top events are the women's Category 1-2-3-4 at 4 p.m. and the Pro/Senior 1-2 Superweek race at 5:45 p.m. For information on the second annual Bensenville event, call 630-594-1018.

Kudos to Christina McDonie of Gurnee after her performance at Saturday's Muncie Endurathon Half-Ironman in Indiana. Although Erin Ford of Columbus, OH, won the women's open class in 4:46:43, McDonie, competing in the 40-44 age group, had the fastest women's time of the day with a 4:39:57. Michael Smith of Brownsburg, IN, averaged 6.22 per mile on the run to win the overall men's title in 4:12:38. Heather Gollnick of Hartford, WI, had been registered to compete in Muncie, but did not race.

There were some noteworthy weekend performances. The honor roll includes: *Sloatman Classc 8K, Cherry Valley - Jeff Jacobs, 39, of Roscoe, IL, with a 25:08 and Dot McMahan, 26, of Shorewood, WI, with a 29:50
*Carelink 5K, West Chicago - Jared Cordes, 25, of Madison, WI, with a 14:42 and Farah Jadran, 17, of Bloomingdale, with a 17:57
*Chris Zorich 5K, Chicago - Emisael Favela, 26, of Chicago, with a 15:49, and Tricia Marks, 35, of Chicago, with a 19:44
*Danskin Women's Triathlon, Pleasant Prairie, WI - Tracy Kellner of Milwaukee with a 1:05:04, winning by more than four minutes. Kellner is a former All-American swimmer at the University of Iowa.
*Splash, Pedal, Dash Triathlon, Schaumburg - Ed Allen of Chicago and Julie Boshold of Buffalo Grove took top honors, clocking 58:12.9 and 1:13:38 respectively.
*Dash, Pedal Dash, Duathlon, Schaumburg - Tom Estka and Heidi Schmidt were individual champions with times of 1:15:37 and 1:25:16. *Valpo Triathlon, Valparaiso, IN - David Ahner, 51, and Diane Butterfield, 44, both of Valpo, won this beauty of a first-year event in 59:16 and 1:05:04 respectively.

THE WEEKEND AHEAD
It seems as though every weekend is a big one for racing in the Chicago area, but this one is really big. Running, triathloning, cycling and swimming all have feature events on the calendar (link below). There's something for just about everybody.

For runners, the headliners are the Galloping Ghost 5K on Saturday in Wheaton and the Chicago 10K in Chicago's Washington Park on Sunday. Good, maybe exceptional fields are expected for both races. Galloping Ghost is on the Chicago Area Runners Association race circuit. The Circuit features some close age-group races. Visit: www.cararuns.org/race_circuits/index.html#standings

For multisport devotees, the focus events are the Met Life Race Around the World Duathlon in Tinley Park and the Harbor Lights Triathlon in Waukegan.

For cyclists, there is the aforementioned Bensenville Criterium, part of the International Cycling Classic Superweek Series.

And for swimmers, there is a rare choice. There is Swim Across America at Ohio Street Beach or the Splish, Splash, Dash open-water swims in Crystal Lake.

Don't see anything you like? Once again, we've barely scratched the surface. There are details on these and many more local events right at your fingertips. Visit our searchable calendar at: www.chicagoaa.com/calendar/smu.html
