HAWAII RE-CAP
It's become quite popular for athletes to send an email wrap-up to their
family,
friends and many supporters. They can be entertaining, funny, and
poignant.
Below is an excerpt from Jennifer Harrison, who has written for Chicago
Athlete
and is a USAT Certified Coach for the Multisport Madness Training
Program
(
www.multisportmadness.com).
On the swim:
"I had several men pull my legs under the water and try to swim over me.
I elbowed
people back. I tried not to be a 'bully' in the water, but I had to hold my
own.
You could see the helicopter in the sky filming us and the BODY GLOVE
boat . . .
it was awesome!"
On the bike:
"I knew the race didn't begin until mile 80 or so on the bike . . . I wasn't
even
at mile 40 yet. 'Hold tight,' I kept telling myself. It seemed the further we
got
from town (Kona) the windier it got. All I kept telling myself is: DRINK
and
'you are a knife cutting thru the wind.' I felt like a sledgehammer. I set
my
watch to beep every six minutes, to remind myself to drink. I was able to
ride
aero at this part, so I had my drinking system and just drank and drank.
The six
minutes was too far apart and I had to drink more than that, for sure."
On the run:
"I ran down into the Energy Lab. Hot. Hot. Hot. Did I say Hot? Hotter
than
anyone has ever been. I actually felt good, but could feel the heat/sun
radiating
off the asphalt and lava."
