LASALLE BANK CHICAGO MARATHON

This is it! The date you've all been waiting for. Be sure to get some rest, try to stay off your feet as much as possible, if you're spectating - map out your course beforehand.

Weekend happenings . . .

** Thursday Press Conference
Marathon weekend officially arrived with the Kick-off Press Conference at noon on Thursday. Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski, LaSalle Bank President Norm Bobins, Mayor Richard Daley, New Balance COO Jim Thompkins, CBS 2's Mark Malone and returning champions Khalid Khannouchi and Joyce Chepchumba welcomed a room full of media members, sponsors and elite athletes at the Hilton Chicago.

"It really has become a city-wide celebration of running and experiencing the city," said Pinkowski.

The Mayor recognized the importance of the marathon as an economic tool that brings tourism and an estimated $80 million dollars to the city, but he also stressed that the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon is, "different from other marathons where the city really says, 'This is our marathon.' "

To conclude the conference, Malone put it best when he stared out into the front rows filled with elite runners from across the globe and said, "Carey, you've done your job man. It's time to let these guys run."
