SCOOP
LANCE'S CHEF - SIGHTING IN DOWNTOWN CHICAGO
Last Friday, Willy (Chef Willy) Balmat, the chef for the U.S. Postal
cycling team was seen at Bokoo Bikes watching the 2004 Tour DVD.
According to CA sources, they tried to get the scoop on whether Lance
was going to race the 2005 Tour but all he said was he wasn't sure,
but he thought he was going to race the Giro d'Italia instead.
We'll see . . .

GRAND RAPIDS (MI) MARATHON - RACE RECAP & QUOTE
Over 800 runners ran this inaugural event on October 31 and there was
Chicagoland
area. Erik Bush, 36, from Warrenville, took the overall title in 2:34:11.
Here's a brief recap of the race he sent us:
My race was tough. I figured I was in sub-2:30 shape, but the winds
were bad.
Being a smaller race, it was hard to stay on pace. I felt horrible from mile
9 to
15. I threw time goals out the window early enough that I could just
enjoy racing.
I knew that bad spots sometime hit you in the marathon, and they don't
last
forever. With that in mind I just tried to limit the damage the lead runner
had
on me. I ran with him for the first nine miles and then again from 14-21. I
dropped him at 21 with a fairly big surge and was able to enjoy the last
few
miles, even though they were into a pretty stiff headwind. I am happy
with my
effort, which precludes being happy with a time. The race was fairly well
run for
a first time event. It was very family friendly. I do recommend it for
others.
They had to limit the field this year due to logistics with the race site, but
from what I hear, they will, at minimum, double the field next year with a
new
race site.
Ed note: Thanks Erik for sharing this with us and CA eNewsletter
readers!
