WE'VE GOT THE #1 HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY TEAM IN
THE COUNTRY!
York High School in Elmhurst scored a historic victory last weekend at
the Nike
Team National Cross Country Championships in Portland, OR,
capturing first place
at the inaugural event and earning the title of outright National
Champions~one
of the few distinctions that had alluded the 24-time state champions.
"This is a dream come true for our community," said Charlie Kern, York's
assistant cross country coach. "We have known for years that our
program has been
amongst the best in the country, and this club had a chance to prove it."
Along with the team title, York senior Sean McNamara claimed the
individual title
as well, covering the muddy 5K course in 15:43. His victory earned him
a ticket to
the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships in San Diego
on Saturday,
December 11. McNamara will be joined at the prestigious high school
meet by his
teammate Matthew Dettman, who finished fourth at the Nike Team
Nationals. Both
runners will be vying for the Foot Locker individual national title to
compliment
their team championship. Good Luck!
