This past year we had several nominations for Clif Bar Athlete of the Month and 18 amazing athletes won this title. HOLIDAY TRADITIONS AT U OF C

The Ted Haydon Holiday Classic Track Meet was held on December 17 at the University of Chicago. According to race organizers, the meet had the largest turnout in recent years. The women's 4x200 meet record was broken by both the Firestarters Track Club and the St. Louis Blues Track Club with the record going to the first place Firestarters Track Club (time: 1:46.67).

LOCAL CYCLING CLUB GIVES RECORD DONATION

Successful cycling invitationals during this past year enabled the Wheeling Wheelmen, a suburban not-for-profit cycling club, to provide the following donations:. A $1,000 to the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation (CBF) and the same amount to the League of Illinois Bicyclists (LIB). In addition, $500 was donated to the LIB to be used toward producing a video for distribution to 2,000 high school driver's education programs. A formal presentation of the checks will take place at the club's next meeting on January 5 at 7 p.m. at Wheeling High School. For more information go to www.wheelmen.com.

TRI-SHARK CLASSIC TO HOST 2006 "BEST OF THE U.S." ILLINOIS QUALIFIER

"Best of the US" Management is pleased to announce that the Tri-Shark Triathlon Classic will host the 2006 "Best of the U.S." IL State Qualifier. The fastest male and female resident amateur will earn the right to represent the Land of Lincoln at the "Best of the US Championship" in Excelsior, MN on September 16.

DICK POND ATHLETICS - CAROL STREAM HOSTS "FROSTY FUN RUN"

On Tuesday, January 3 the Dick Pond Athletics store in Carol Stream will host their "Frosty Fun Run" starting at 6 p.m. NIKE will be present with new NIKE training shoes not yet released and these shoes will be available to try out during the run. Afterward there will be refreshments, a free gift for all runners and several raffle items also donated by Nike.

TRI TRAINING CLINIC FOR THE OFF SEASON

The Bike Shop in Glen Ellyn will host a triathlon clinic, Triathlon Training 101, on January 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Leading the clinic will be Lauren Jensen (2nd overall female Ironman Wisconsin 2005). THE BLOOMINGDALE TRAIL LECTURE - JANUARY 12

Learn firsthand how the proposed Bloomingdale Trail will transform an abandoned railroad viaduct on Chicago's Northwest Side into an oasis for walkers and bike riders on January 12 at 12:15 p.m at the Chicago Cultural Center, Claudia Cassidy Theater, 77 E. Randolph St., in downtown Chicago. Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail will highlight community efforts to champion the trail, steps the city of Chicago is taking to make the park a reality, and examples of similar projects in New York and Paris.
