DICK BEARDSLEY APPEARANCES IN CHICAGO

Dick Beardsley, one of America's all-time great marathoners, will appear in Chicago at Universal Sole (3254 N. Lincoln Ave.) on Tuesday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m., then in Orland Park at Human Race Sports (15148 La Grange Rd.) on Wednesday, March 23, at 7 p.m. Beardsley is a motivational speaker who ran 2:08:54 in the 1982 Boston Marathon to finish two seconds behind Alberto Salazar in the race known as the "Duel in the Sun," one of the most memorable races in marathon history. He has taken on a new role as the expert coach for Chicago's Joints In Motion Marathon & Hike Training program.

THE DEAN SHOW

He's getting a lot of media attention (Time Magazine, David Letterman Show just to name a couple) and now he's coming to Chicago. Dean Karnazes, an endurance athlete who has run 262 miles non-stop will be at Fleet Feet Sports on Saturday, March 26. He'll lead their Fun Run at 10 a.m., then stick around to sign his newly released book, "Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner."

OUCH FACTOR . . . OR . . . WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?

Did you catch the photo/news item about David Clinger in the Tribune or in Sports Illustrated? The Webcor rider got a tattoo (Maaori style) that covers his whole face and head - yes, you read correctly. It cost him about $150 and 20 hours to complete. Needless to say, Webcor was none too pleased and now he has to undergo laser treatments to remove it and the cost is bit more $20,000! Regardless, they sure got a lot of publicity out of it.
