KASTOR BLAZES TO 8K U.S. RECORD AND SELL REPEATS AT LASALLE BANK SHAMROCK SHUFFLE

Deena Kastor got what she came for last Sunday morning at The LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle -- racing to an American 8K record. Brian Sell got what he was hoping for, too -- grinding out a hard-earned repeat title. And it looks like 18,733 runners got a great start to the running season.

The ladies of The Runner's Edge invite women athletes to Ladies' Night on April 14 at the Runner's Edge Libertyville store at 6:30 p.m. where women will learn how a sports bra should fit, be fit professionally, as well as enjoy snacks and great company. BUILDING STEAM FOR STEAMBOAT CLASSIC

It's already time to start planning for one of Illinois' favorite races-the Steamboat Classic in Peoria on June 11. Building Steam & Team Steam Registration & adidas Days will be at Running Central this Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Additional locations for the Building Steam and Team Steam programs are the Peoria Park District RiverPlex (Program Dates: Wednesdays, April 6 through June 8) and Woodruff High School (Program Dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays, April 5 through June 7). Program fees are $65 ($60 for IVS Members) including race entry fee, and $50 ($45 for IVS Members) without race entry fee. For more details, go to www.steamboatclassic.org.

KONA/IMBA FREERIDING GRANTS AVAILABLE

Kona Bicycle Company and the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) will award cash grants to fund the development of freeriding, downhilling, and dirt jumping projects. IMBA-affiliated clubs in North America are invited to apply for seven $1,000 awards. The program's goal is to speed the development of freeriding opportunities on public land. The application deadline is May 1, and the grants will be awarded in June.
