QUOTE

From the Steamboat Classic race this past weekend. In the 15K race, it was a threesome that broke the finish line tape: Brian Sell, Trent Briney and Clint Verran from the Hansons-Brooks team.

"We had assigned leaders each 5K," said Verran. "Brian was the second leader and he was feeling better than Trent and I and pushed it a little bit, then kind of waited up for us towards the end. We didn't really treat it as a race. We're all buds on this Hansons-Brooks training team and we wanted to finish together."

TRIATHLON NEWS: BEST OF THE U.S.

Best of the US Amateur Triathlon competition is coming to Illinios in a few weeks with the Iron Horse Quartermax Triathlon on June 19. Meanwhile, the Michigan reps were recently picked and the top male is Matt Wehrman, 26, from Birmingham, MI. If the name seems familiar, he's the younger brother of top Chicago runner, Chris Wehrman. And for the MI women, it's noteworthy to mention that Ann Arbor's Karen McKeatchie was selected to represent the women---she's an icon among masters athletes. At 52-years-old, she's a 19-time All American and is a 5-time World Champion.

GOOD READ . . . .

KENYA DOMINATES MARATHON SCENE FOR THE MEN AND THE USA FOR THE WOMEN

Since 1953, men have run the marathon under 2:20 a recorded total of 28,603 times, and since 1971, 28,684 women have run times better than 2:55. That means that despite the shorter time period, the women have really caught up. Dr. Dave E. Martin (Atlanta/USA) has put together the results of the marathon races in 2004 in a unique statistical study, evaluating the times below 2:20 for the men and 2:55 for the women. He not only did that for the year 2004, but he also started with the first recorded men's results under 2:20 in 1953 and with the women's results starting in 1971.
