SAUCONY 26 ^ Nomination deadline is beginning of August Saucony Inc., will select 26 competitors from the various neighborhoods in and around the race course based on their passion for the sport and their own special reasons for running the marathon. These 26 individuals, one runner to represent each full mile of the racecourse, will have their stories told in a special booklet and on the Saucony 26 website. The U. S. Transplant Games are taking place in MN this week with 51 participants on Team Illinois. Athletic competition includes sports from bowling to track & field to swimming for adults and children who have received a lifesaving solid organ transplant---heart, liver, kidney, lung, and pancreas. ONE-DAY RUNNING SCHOOL

Olympian Jeff Galloway will be conducting his one-day running school on Saturday, August 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the East Bank Club, 500 N Kingsbury St. The $199 fee includes a T-shirt, a copy of Galloway's Book on Running and priority email access to Jeff afterward. Plus, he'll do an Individual Running Form Analysis for everyone and will demonstrate (and give time to practice) Acceleration Gliders, Cadence Drills & Turnover Drills. Has anyone checked this out? Let us know what you think at editorial@chicagoaa.com . The station is located on levels 5 and 6 of the Millennium Park parking garage and it includes free indoor parking for 300 bikes, showers and lockers, bicycle rental and repair, and a cafe.

CARA will host a FREE clinic - Hydration and Performance: Key Research and Implications for Endurance Athletes - presented by the Gatorade Sports Science Institute on Friday, July 30, 12 Noon, at Chicago Athletic Association, 12 S. Michigan Ave., in downtown Chicago. Factoid: Gatorade researchers found that as little as two percent dehydration can decrease endurance performance by ten percent or more.

CYCLING NEWS - DISTRICT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Since the Northbrook Velodrome is still under repair, thanks to the Kenosha Velodrome Association and Carl Wilkins, USCF official and proprietor of Wisconsin Bicycle Racing, there will be Illinois District Track Championships this season- the weekend of August 6-8 (Friday through Sunday). Here's an opportunity to try a wetsuit before you spend a lot of money on something that just doesn't fit right in the neck or is a great way to see if you want a different style. On Tuesdays from 5:30pm - 7:30pm and Saturdays from 8 a.m to 10 a.m. at Ohio Street Beach, Fleet Feet Sports and Ironman Wetsuits will provide wetsuits. Cost is $5 per rental, or $3 if you are a member of a Fleet Feet affiliated team or club.
