THE SCOOP
Paula Radcliffe appears to be over the shin injury and bronchitis that kept her out of the World Track & Field Championships last month in Paris. Radcliffe ran a 30:51 in a local London 10K on Sunday, only 13 seconds slower than she ran the race last year when she was in world record shape. She still isn't run- ning The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon or any other fall marathon, but will announce her fall road racing plans soon. From Chicago, a rousing Go, Paula, go!

And as you probably saw on our Web site, Khalid Khannouchi has withdrawn from this year's LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon because of a knee injury. Khalid just can't train the way he needs to so he can race at his high level. For the full story, visit: http://www.chicagoaa.com/news/chicagomarathon03khalid out.html

Who are the top American men entered to run Chicago? Try Meb Keflezighi, Dan Browne and Rod DeHaven. Lots could change between now and the race. Chicago Athlete Magazine is the Official Program for The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. Watch our Web site (www.chicagoaa.com) for any updates.

THE IRONMAN WISCONSIN REPORT
Heather Gollnick made it three-for-three in Ironman competition as she won her second consecutive Ironman Wisconsin title on Sunday at Madison, WI. Gollnick, of Hartford, WI, did three cartwheels before crossing the finish line in 9:46:28. "I was pretty nervous on the bike," Gollnick, a mother of three, said afterward. "I had to pace myself and I kept praying. The crowd is awesome!" So was she! Dave Harju, a cross-country skier from Hull, QE (Canada) was the overall winner in a time of 8:55:26. Conditions were warm, making it a tough day for many. "The heat was really getting to me," said Harju, who kept his heart rate at 140 throughout the event by using a Body Link monitor by Timex. And how that cross- country skiing helped his training? "It helps with strength and fitness," Harju said. "Instead of a four-hour bike (indoors), I can be out skiing in the fresh air."

Illinois was led by Brian Scott of Evanston, who finished in 9:57:18 and Tara Schramm of Roscoe (near Rockford), who clocked 11:18:38.

A few scenes to remember, courtesy of Chicago Athlete managing editor Brenda Barrera, who was on the scene.
. . . Kris Hartner of the Naperville Running Company coming across in 11:12:43, carrying his son who was all decked out in a matching NRC uniform.
. . . Illinoisans Jonathan Tenney and Michael Rubin, who met each other while training in Madison, found themselves trading places on the run. As they passed the state capitol, they were neck and neck. Both came barreling down and crossed the finish line together in 11:11:05.
. . . from Michael Gotzler, the second Illinois finisher: "I hurt my quad last week and didn't think I'd be able to race!"
. . . from Dan Day, the third Illinois finisher: "I can't believe I did this! I sprained my ankle coming out of the swim transition and I had a 102-degree temperature this past week."
. . . Karen Grabowski of Niles, who finished in a strong 11:23:24, threw her bike chain more than a couple of times!

There were 1,900 participants in this event. Congratulations to all who took part! For more, visit: click here.
