Lornah Kiplagat set a new 10K world road race record on Sunday at the
Tilburg 10K
Ladies Race---she clocked 30:59! (She finished second at the 2000
LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon in 2:22:36, her PR). For more on this

FALL MARATHONING
If you missed the deadline to enter The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon
or the Twin
Cities Marathon you might want to consider these alternatives:
The Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon on October 3. According to the race
director,
Kristine Hinrichs, "Last year the weather was terrific and an amazing 98
percent
of those who started their run successfully completed the 26.2 mile
course . . .
and 22 percent of the finishers attained qualifying times for the Boston

The Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon, on October 24, is
predicting their
largest field ever. In addition to the marathon, they also have a 5K, five-
person
relay and half-marathon. They expect to reach capacity of 2,500 in the

marathon and 400 teams for the 5-person Reebok Relays within the
next week or two.

Keep your calendars open for the Northbrook CycloCross Grand Prix on
Sunday,
September 26. The daylong event features the SteepleCross World
Championships
(a 4.5-mile running race), multiple CycloCross events, and the 9-mile
Dirty
DoubleCross World Championships (a ride 'n tie-type relay race). All
events take
place on the obstacle- and mud-filled CycloCross course in Northbrook,
and partial
process go to the Ed Rudolph Velodrome Endowment fund. For more
