HURRICANE KATRINA CAN'T STOP NAPERVILLE 8K
New Orleans-based Premier Events Management, producers of the
Dannon/Daily Herald
Naperville 8K Championships scheduled for September 17, was
slammed by Hurricane
Katrina, and we've heard from race director Bill Burke that the company
is down
but not out. Burke still plans to be in town for the Naperville 8K and he is
looking forward to making it a great event.

STORK REPORT
Last year Marla Runyan finished 7th overall among the women at The
LaSalle Bank
Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:28:33. In case you're wondering why
her name
isn't in the line-up for this year's race, it's because the 2000 Olympic
finalist
and three-time USA Outdoor women's 5,000-meter champion gave birth
to daughter
Anna Lee Runyan Lonergan on Thursday, September 1. It is the first
child for
Runyan and her husband, Matt Lonergan.

MARATHON COUNTDOWN: DO YOU HAVE YOUR MARATHON
SHOES YET?
Mark Buciak, veteran of 49 marathons including the last 26 straight
Boston
Marathons and writer for Chicago Athlete Magazine, has this tip for all
marathoners running the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon or another
marathon this
fall:
"Look at your running shoes. How old are they and how many miles do
you have on
them? If you have more than 300 miles and/or if they are older than 3
months, now
is the time to purchase the pair of shoes that you'll run in for the
marathon.
Ideally, you will want to have run 50 to 100 miles in the shoes that you
will wear
on marathon day."
For more marathon tips, stop by Momentum on Sunday, September 18,
for a free
seminar featuring Buciak starting at 5 p.m. Seating is limited, so please
RVSP at 773-525-7866.

REI GRANT HELPS MOUNTAIN BIKE GROUP TAKE ON BIG
PROJECT
The Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (CAMBr) has been awarded a
$5,000 grant from
Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), the largest single financial
contribution to
CAMBr's trail advocacy efforts to date. The bulk of this grant has been
earmarked
for the construction of a bridge this fall at the Palos Forest Preserve, in
partnership with the Cook County Forest Preserve District. While
primarily
intended for pedestrian, bike and horse traffic, the bridge must also be
able to
accommodate small county vehicles.
For more information on CAMBR, visit: www.cambr.org.
