Fifth Third Bank Half Marathon Recap
June 8, 2004

1. Overall winner John Weigel, 30, of Naperville, was relatively uneffected by the weather, pulling away to win by a minute over the final three miles.

"I was happy with my race," said Weigel. "My training has been going well for a couple months and this is a great time to race a half marathon--to gauge your fitness early in the summer."

2. Crystal Lake resident Jenny Parks, 26, won the women's title for the second year in a row. Despite not feeling her best she managed to win by over three minutes.

"My legs were tired," said Parks. "I'm training for the Chicago Marathon and I have upped my mileage (67 miles last week). So this was good workout for me."

3. Runners crossed over the Fox River on the trestle bridge just before the 10 mile mark. On the other side they were greeted by the "Sponge Ladies," who were handing out sponges soaked with cold water.
