The Four Bridges Challenge of Elgin is set for Sunday,
July 8. An international event for cyclists and inline skaters,
Four Bridges could draw 900 competitors and thousands of
spectators according to Chicago Special Events
Management, which produces the all-day event. This is a great spectator event, which highlights the
northwest area of Elgin, east of the Fox River. Racing on a
5.5-mile loop, the events began and end on Kimball Street
at Douglas Avenue. The historic, tree-lined Douglas Avenue
provides the longest straightaway on the course. Also
included are the twists and rolls of River Bluff Road and
scenic Trout Park.
The featured cycling event, sanctioned by the U.S. Cycling
Federation, is an international race that will feature teams
from the U.S. competing against teams from Mexico,
Canada and various European countries. The cycling
events are expected to draw approximately 400 racers.
Inline skating portions of the day will be under the
jurisdiction of USA Inline Racing. As many as 500 skaters
are scheduled to compete.
The day also includes citizen-class races and a festival
with food and entertainment.
