Lynne and Jamie Parks will be featured in December 2007 issue of Runner's World magazine
Runner's World magazine recently announced its fourth annual Heroes of Running, featured in the December 2007 issue on newsstands October 30. The honored runners have gone above and beyond, defying expectations, breaking barriers and leading future generations of runners. Tinley Park's marathon couple, Lynn and Jamie Parks, will be among those honored this year.

Together, the Parks have done more than 160 races and 12,000 miles together with Jamie, a runner since 1984, extraordinarily pushing Lynn in her wheelchair. Lynn suffered an injury in 1987 from an auto accident that left her confined to a wheelchair. They have a marathon PR of 2:57, set in 1996 in Chicago, and are currently trying to qualify for Boston. In 1999, their daughter joined them in races, sitting on Lynn's lap. Annalyn, now 8, is running on her own, hoping to eventually race alongside her parents. In 2005, the Parks organized the Katrina Relief 5K in their Chicago-area community to benefit victims of the hurricane and donated their race T-shirts to hurricane evacuees.

"Each of these Heroes is living proof that running has the capacity to transform our minds and spirits, and the ability to improve the lives of others," said Runner's World Editor-in-Chief David Willey, who initiated the Heroes of Running in 2004. "Running is more than a trim physique or a finisher's medal; it brings people and communities together, allows for positive change and reflects the amazing feats people are capable of when faced with a challenge."
