From Press Release July 1, 2003 Chicago Athlete
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 29, 2003)---Heather Gollnick, 2002 Ironman Wisconsin
Champion won the inaugural 2003 Ironman Idaho in Coeur D1 Alene. In just 10
months, Gollnick has bagged two Ironman victories as well as winning the
prestigious Wildflower half Ironman triathlon in California earlier in May.
On a day that saw high winds and temperatures above the 95 degree mark,
Gollnick not only outlasted the rest of the pro women field, but she posted
the 9th fastest time overall---finishing in 9 hours, 42 minutes, 8 seconds.
Gollnick laid it all out on the line during the swim and exited the water in
4th place. "I bonked after the swim - the first 20 miles of the bike were
really hard", she said after her win. Gollnick took the lead on the 112
mile bike leg and never looked back.
Her training secret? 'Duck, duck, goose and the occasional game of tag.
That1s what you do a lot of when you have six-year-old twins, and a
three-year-old son to take care of at home when you're not training to win
Ironman races," said Gollnick prior to her second Ironman title.
