September 9, 2003

From event press release.

PEORIA, IL - The first running of the Illinois Valley Striders Half-Marathon & Relays will take place on Sunday, Sept. 14. The 13.1-mile race starts at 7:45 a.m. near the Michael Sonnemaker Sculpture and Garden in this central Illinois city's lower Glen Oak Park.

The course is best described as a figure-eight loop repeated twice. (This design easily accommodates two-person and four-person relay teams.) The loop's start, midpoint and finish are adjacent to the Michael Sonnemaker Sculpture and Garden in the park.

The Illinois Valley Striders will host pre-registration at Running Central, 700 W. Main, Peoria, on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Race day entries will be accepted from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. near the race starting line.

With a membership of over 1,000 members, the Illinois Valley Striders' (IVS) mission is to promote running/walking fitness as a life sport while striving to enhance the community. IVS serves its members, the running community and the community at large through its active involvement in programs, events and organizations/issues that satisfy this mission. Proceeds from race entry fees are used to support IVS programs and events year-round.
