Medanord and Ganzer Win Keep the Beat 5K

Andrew Medenord (16:32) and Christine Ganzer (20:44) were the winners on Sunday in the first annual Keep the Beat 5K for Heart Health The event was hosted by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine's Division of Cardiology and Guidant Corporation.

Based near the Columbia Yacht Club at Randolph and the lakefront, the event also featured a health fair for participants before and after the race.

Second- and third-place men were Doug Novak 17:08 and Gary Townsend 17:25, while their women counterparts were Tracey Wilson 21:11 and Sharon Neff 22:10. A Team plaque was awarded to a squad of physical therapy students from Northwestern University.

Many of the participants were Guidant patients demonstrating how people with cardiac devices and heart conditions can live long and active lives.

Funds raised will support heart health research at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. Guidant Corporation is a pioneer in lifesaving cardiovascular technology and presented this event in cooperation with Northwestern University to educate the public about the symptoms and risk factors of heart disease.
