Universal Sole's Lakefront 10 adds 5K and chip timing
March 10, 2005 From Press Release
New in 2005, the Lakefront 10 will be adding a 5K race to meet the
demands of the participants and to further grow the event."So many people over the years have wished they were in shape to run
10 miles so they could run with their friends in the race, but they weren't
ready," said Peters. "Now they don't have to be. I know the 5K is going to
be a blast." Also new this year will be the intro of chip timing. For the past five years
the Lakefront 10 has relied on the standard bib and pull-tab method of
keeping track of participants' finish records. From Jenny Spangler's
60:15 course-record to Martin Katz's 1:38 in 2003, a tab was pulled to
secure a time and place. That's 7,760 tabs pulled by volunteers since
1999! As the race has grown from 500 to over 2000 runners in 2002,
race director Paul Peters felt the chip timing system would allow the
Lakefront 10 to continue growing and for the timing method to reflect the
quality of the event. Besides the great course that runs along Lake Michigan, the Lakefront
10 will once again offer its technical Reebok long sleeve to all
participants, awards to the top three in standard CARA age groups, and
over $1700 in prize money. For more information visit www.universalsole.com.
