Chicago, IL---(February 6, 2003)---Chicago TV personalities
hit the treadmills on Thursday,
Feb. 6, kicking off the Finish Line-Nike Shox "More Go"
Challenge for Boys and Girls Clubs in Chicago. The media event at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boys
and Girls Club, was designed to publicize the "More Go"
Challenge, which begins Friday, Feb. 7 and runs through
Saturday, Feb. 8 at five Finish Line stores across the
Chicago area.
In a campaign to publicize the new Nike Shox shoe,
just introduced on Jan. 22, and to raise funds for the Boys
and Girls Clubs, Nike and Finish Line are donating $10 (up
to $15,000) for each mile run by the general public on
treadmills at designated Finish Line stores. Hours are 4 to
8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday,
Feb. 8. All participants can try out the new Shox and are
eligible for $500 in Finish Line gift cards.
According to Elise Hasbrook of Finish Line, participants
will be limited to 5K on the treadmill. Runners trying out the
new Shox will be allowed three-minute trial runs in the new
shoes, she said.
"Nike has devoted almost 20 years to developing the
Nike Shox technology," said Chris O'Donnell, Global
Footwear Product Director for Nike. "The Nike Shox NZ and
Nike Shox TL are the ultimate evolution in a running
platform. The superior cushioning system helps to return
energy to the runner, and runners are telling us they feel
less fatigued after a run."
On hand to get things started off on the right foot were
Mike Barz and Deborah Brown of WGN-TV, Channel 9; Anna
Davlantes, and Amy Jacobson of WMAQ-TV, NBC5; John
Garcia of WLS-TV, ABC7 and Steve Kashul of CLTV. All six
put in more than a couple of treadmill miles for the cause
and were cheered on by kids from the Boys and Girls Club.
Garcia said he is in training for the Paris Marathon in April,
while Barz revealed he is in the initial phase of training for
this fall's LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. There was no
word from the others on racing plans for 2003.
