Northern Illinois Nordic Postponed to Jan. 31
January 23, 2004 From race director
Northern Illinois Nordic 12K, scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
New date: Saturday, Jan. 31,
Arrowhead Golf Club, Wheaton, IL
The 8th annual Northern Illinois Nordic 12K cross-country
ski race at
Arrwohead Golf Club in Wheaton, scheduled for Saturday
morning, has been
postponed until Saturday, Jan. 31. Although it did snow on Friday, only about an inch had
fallen in Wheaton
by 4 p.m., and it was determined that it would be impossible
to ensure that
the course could be groomed and ready for a race. Ann
Kaltofen, Nordic
Director at Arowhead said a 3-inch snowfall was required
before the groomer could go
out on the 6K loop course. Bare spots and cart crossings
not adequately
covered by snow also played into the decision to postpone This will be the third year in a row that the race will go to
its third
date.
"I know the third time is the charm, but this is taking it to
the
extreme," said race director Bob Richards. The 12K and 4K youth race are now scheduled for 9:30
a.m., Saturday,
Jan. 31.
The race is expected to draw skiers from Illinois, Wisconsin
and Indiana. For more information contact Bob Richards, Race
Director
