Red Cross Teams Up With Marathon to Help Local Programs
April 28, 2003
From official press release

When The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon rolls around this October, don't be the only runner who's not running for a reason. The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago is teaming up for a second year with the marathon so that runners can make a difference in the lives of those affected by disaster.

As part of the official RUN RED Marathon Team, you can receive a discount on CARA's Marathon training programs, free CPR and first aid certification, tickets to Red Cross events and an official RUN RED shirt.

All the donations raised will support the programs and services provided by the Red Cross. These programs range from health and safety training such as CPR and First Aid training to HIV prevention workshops and aquatics training. The Red Cross of Greater Chicago also provides disaster response services to address the immediate needs of individuals and families affected by local disasters including shelter, food, counseling and other assistance.

Pledges will also help prevent disasters by enabling the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago to train the community in disaster preparedness.

The Red Cross offers many programs that help keep communities healthy and safe.

Not up to running 26.2 miles this year? The Red Cross is looking for volunteers for the day of the marathon. People are needed to be a part of the Red Cross cheering section located on mile16.

Volunteers also are needed to staff booths at The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon Health & Fitness Expo and at Race-Day Charity Village. Or you can volunteer to assemble promotional materials during the months leading up to the race.
