Rotary Race to the Finish
Evanston 5K raises funds to eliminate polio; 16-year-old takes first place

Karsen Green, 16, finished the June 10 Rotary Race to the Finish in
17:30, more than a minute ahead of the rest of the field. Green, a
Gurnee resident, runs for Warren High School. Suresh Decosta, 34, from
Skokie finished second in 18:48. Bill Cohn, 47, of Chicago, placed third
with a time of 18:54.
For the women, Evanston's Karen Witkin, 35, won in 20:29. Christine
Anyetei-Vog, 29, from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., placed second in 21:38.
Rebecca Hadesman, 42, from Libertyville, followed with 21:49.
The Rotary Race to the Finish course wound along the Lake Michigan
shore in Evanston around the Northwestern University lakefill and
Centennial Park.
Since it began seven years ago, the Rotary Race to the Finish has
raised $250,000 toward eliminating polio worldwide. The disease,
which affects children under age 5, is nearly eradicated: only four
countries in the world have recently reported infections.
