Running USA Wire August 30, 2007 Park Forest, Ill. Chicago Athlete
The 30th Park Forest Scenic 10 Mile --a Chicagoland Labor Day
tradition--goes off on Monday, September 3 at 8 a.m. with defending
champion and course record holder Nelson Kiplagat headlining the
field. Last year, Kiplagat edged fellow Kenyan Reuben Chebii in what
was the closest and fastest race ever at Park Forest, both were timed in
46 minutes, 30 seconds. Chebii will also return to see if he has gained a
step or two in the past year. Others to watch are Josphat Ndeti, Matthew
Chesang, Richard Kimeli and top Americans Teren Jameson, Mark
Stallings, Matt Thull, David Williams and Brian Lyons.
In the women's race, Leah Kiprono, Caroline Cheptanui, Lilian Chelimo
and Florence Jepkosgei from Kenya should be contenders, but also
look for Jung Ae Nah from South Korea as well as a host of Americans
in the mix.
Race director Bud James will close out his 23 years at Park Forest
which includes 20 years as race director. The future of the race remains
unknown at this time as the local government is in the process of
studying what direction if any to go following this year's race. According
to James, the 30th edition "will be the last as we know it today."
